    Hi,

If FaxMan cant see a modem then generally its because the modem is in use by another application. Be sure and stop other comm/fax applications and it should find the modem then.

If FaxMan Cannot Detect a Modem either:

    A. Some other process has the port Open.  Look for any running app or Service (such as the Telephony Service or the RAS Service) that might have the port open, and disable this service.

    or

    B. The port was left in a bad state and cannot be opened.  For external modems, power the modem off, count to 10, repower the device.  For internal modems you must reboot the machine in order to guarantee a reset.

Hyperterminal Test - After doing the above, try this:

    Open Hyperterminal
1st Dialog: Give the session some name: "foo"
2nd Dialog: Connect using the COM port NOT the modem name
3rd Dialog: Accept all the default settings.
Once you are in the terminal window, type "AT" and hit ENTER.

Do you get an OK back?  If so, the FaxMan should be able to detect and use this port.  If not, review A. and B. above.

    Re: no device found

On the machines that are not working, RAS is not running

Hyperterminal does not work on the COM port with or without Telephony running

    What does that mean ?

In any case, why doesn't your program work when winfax and other fax programs work ok

We have a couple hundred small customers using windows 98 thru Vista and all they care about is it working without problems.

Is there anything I can do to get your program running for them ?

    thanks,

    al

    Re: no device found

     Hi,

If you cant open the port with Hyperterminal then either a) another app has it open or b) the drivers arent installed properly if its a winmodem. You say that other fax apps work so its likely the fact that some other comm software has the port open. Hyperterminal opens the port in the same manner as FaxMan so it it cant open it then we wont be able to either.

Do these systems have MS Fax running by chance ?

    Hi,

If Hyperterminal (which is an MS application) cant open the port then there is a serious problem with the port or its drivers aren't installed. In 99% of cases this is because another application has the port open. You mention Winfax, are you absolutely sure that Winfax isnt running the background and holding the port open?

    Hi,

Would it be possible to gain remote access to one of these machines to look at it ?

    Re: no device found

I would very much appreciate it if you could log on my computer to see the problem

The reason I suggested I call you is that I do not wish to give IP address in forum

    thanks
