    FaxMan4.EXE on Windows Vista

    Hi,

We are having an issue with Windows Vista Ultimate prompting with a 'User Account Control' dialog requiring an Administrator Password to run the FAXMAN4.EXE after printing to a Printer which uses the driver (the 4.3.1 driver with Vista support).  The Windows Vista machine is attached to an Active Directory network.  The prompt is encountered only once per user account (if the Administrator password is entered).

We deploy a client application which uses the Windows Vista driver into an environment where multiple users may log onto a machine.  If an Administrative password is required for each user logon, it will make deployment much more challenging.  We have noted that if the digital certificate from the FaxMan4.exe is installed onto the workstation and the machine is rebooted that the dialog does not present for new users.

Do you have resources or links to resources on how to best deal with these issues in enterprise environments?  That is, are there any recommendations on how to deploy on a large scale without requiring an administrator to touch each workstation (to avoid Windows Vista User Account Control security dialogs) when distributing the FaxMan drivers to Windows Vista workstations?

Thank you in advance for any advice or recommendations,

    Jason

    Hi,

The FaxMan4.exe requires admin rights because it has to create global objects and is marked as such. Thats why you are getting the UAC prompt.

We recommend installing the faxman4.exe as a service on the machines in which case you will not get prompted by UAC as services run as admin by default.
